Abstract

This article looks at the issue of care, at the heart of current events, to understand its particularities. It postulates that the social importance of the care work carried out mainly by women is affected by the lack of recognition. Through the example of the “colony nurses” in Quebec who were entrusted with the care of entire impoverished communities, it hypothesizes that the scope of services and the ambiguity of the situation of these nurses are based on training models whose legacy, still present, led them to act in spite of the borders set on their way.
