L' histoire seigneuriale laurentienne à propos de tendances récentes de la recherche

Abstract

Quebec seigniorial history is experiencing a regain in interest. This article aims to expose in a convenient place recent developments in research – notably on female seigniorial power, First Nations, heritage, persistence, and memory – and to highlight some of its innovations. This commentary will focus on a double issue linked to the increased complexity of our understanding of the seigniorial universe and the question of its uniqueness. Facing the enrichment of research and its multiple fruitful orientations, we propose, moreover, two ways to formulate a more global interpretation of the Saint Lawrence Valley seigniorial trajectory: feudalism and non-radical modernity.
