Mise en commun des ressources et apurement des comptes familiaux dans le district de Trois-Rivières, 1840-1920

Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to identify the different patterns that the sharing and circulation of family assets could take in Quebec between 1840 and 1920. Three secondary objectives also structure the discussion: to improve our understanding of the range of family economies during this period; to reveal the circumstances in which families could constitute the site of transactions and conventions, formal or informal, of great intensity and complexity; to shed light on intra-family power relations that are less often analysed, first and foremost the tensions that can affect siblings over domestic assets.
